Built in 1856 by Jacob Spencer. Later, Jacob%u2019s son, Robert, hired French and Swiss chefs and a Belgium baker. The Fountain Room had beautiful imported chandeliers and a live macaw. Eventually, Jacob%u2019s daughter Elizabeth Winchell tore the hotel down and built a new six-story hotel, which was razed in 1979. The Willis Van Devanter Grant County Office Complex now occupies the site.
