Erected in the early 1870s by Charles Moenkhaus with 21 bedrooms. In 1896 the Huntingburg News said of its restaurant, %u201cThe table is provided with an abundance of wholesome appetizing viands.%u201d Now demolished.Erected in 1901 by Jack Avis as the Avis Hotel. A three-story addition was built in 1913. It was purchased in 1939 by Roger H. Godfrey who renamed it the Godfrey Hotel. When sold in 1944, its name was changed to the Salem Hotel. The building continues to serve the community, and has been home to a variety of businesses.
