Alexander Barnett came to Logansport from Catskill, New York in 1844, and built his hotel in 1847. It was razed in 1885, and a new four-story hotel was built to replace it. That second Barnett Hotel is shown in this post card. It burned in 1919 and was not rebuilt. The total loss amounted to $100,000, with one person killed, and three seriously injured.Built in 1885 by William and Avella Smith, it was a popular site for reunions and offered camping, picnic grounds, fishing, swimming, and boating. It must have had a magnificent screen porch because the Smiths highlighted it in their advertising.
