Built as the Violett House by Major John W. Violett in 1856. In 1881 Gen. Milo S. Hascall bought and remodeled the hotel, and renamed it the Hotel Hascall, making it into one of the finest in Indiana. In about 1890 it was sold to Former Mayor Charles B. Alderman and his son, who renamed the Hotel Alderman. The hotel%u2019s guests have included four of the vice-presidents from Indiana, as well as five Indiana governors, and President Benjamin Harrison. The First State Bank of Middlebury is now on the site.
