The St. Joseph Hotel was the first hotel on this site, which was destroyed by fire twice. In 1879, it was replaced with the two-story Oliver House, which was torn down in 1898. The Oliver Hotel was then erected in 1899, with interior furnishings costing over $100,000. East India mahogany was used in corridors, vestibules, main lobby, and offices, with running water supplied to every room. It was demolished in 1969, and a Ramada Inn currently occupies the site.Oliver Hotel luggage label used for promotion.
