Built by architect and contractor Charles F. Lembke in 1923, who designed or built 28 residences, 18 schools, and 27 businesses in Valparaiso and Porter County between 1900 and 1923. In 1956, actor Basil Rathbone was in town for a lecture at Valparaiso University, and he answered questions at a press conference in the hotel. The building was refurbished in 1982, but razed in 1988.
