Designed by architects Holabird and Roche of Chicago, and built by Demas Deming in 1919, it had 250 rooms and 200 baths. In 1962 Hulman and Co. bought the hotel, then sold it to Indiana State University for a men%u2019s dormitory. In 1978 the building was sold again and converted into apartments for seniors and handicapped.In 1869 local businessman Nicholas Filbeck purchased Johnny Burton%u2019s Pavilion Hotel, which later became known as the %u201cold%u201d Filbeck Hotel. The %u201cnew%u201d Filbeck Hotel was built in 1894. Filbeck had been the postmaster of Terre Haute from 1873-1881. The hotel was razed in May 1961.
