This HMS Jupiter (F60) was a Batch 3 Leander-class frigate of the Royal Navy, which displaced 3,251 tons, was 372 ft. long, had a beam of 41 ft. She was propelled by a pair of Babcock & Wilcox boilers and two sets of WhiteEnglish Electric double-reduction geared turbines to two shafts. The ship was laid down by Yarrow Shipbuilders on October 3, 1966, launched on September 4, 1967, commissioned on August 9, 1969, decommissioned on April 22, 1992, and sold for scrap in 1997.Eighteen-year-old Jessica Alexander, a student from Darlington, was named Miss HMS Jupiter at a contest in Middlesbrough's Madison Nightclub in 1991.
