This periodical%u2019s back cover image is reminiscent of Donald Piccard%u2019s ill-fated flight on August 17, 1959, when he crashed his Jupiter II balloon into a tree. However, this image depicts a different balloon Jupiter, one piloted by Eugene Boiteux. On June 26, 1896, this Jupiter along with two other balloons (Explorer Celeste and Pioneer) took off into a thunderstorm, from Issy-lesMoulineaux, a Paris suburb. All three balloons crashed, resulting in one death and several serious injuries. A fourth balloon, Argus, which was launched later, had an uneventful flight.
