This periodical%u2019s cover image seems to depict John Wise who, with three companions made an epic 809-mile trip from St. Louis, Missouri to Henderson, New York. During a storm over Lake Ontario, they were dragged violently over the waves before finally reaching shore. However, Wise made that trip in a balloon named Atlantic, and this image actually shows a different balloon tragedy%u2014one that involved a balloon named Jupiter, but was piloted by Georges Besan%u00e7on, who with two companions, took off from La Havre, France on July 12, 1892, and crashed in the English Channel. Fortunately, all three survived.
