                                    The planet Jupiter was named after the king of the Roman gods. Since that time, scores of places and objects (and people) have been named Jupiter. For example, there is a Jupiter Stradivarius violin, a Japanese metal band called Jupiter, a Jupiter Hotel in Portland, Oregon, and Mozart%u2019s Symphony No. 41 is also know as the Jupiter Symphony. Jupiter Ghosh, who was born in 1989, was a Bangladeshi cricket player, and Jupiter Hammon, a poet, was the first African-American writer to be published in the present-day United States.In the field of transportation, the French had two ships called Jupiter long before John Wise named his 1859 balloon. In fact, there have been over two dozen military- and pleasure-craft named Jupiter. %u201cJohnny Jupiter%u201d was the name of two American television programs that aired in 1953-54. There is also a Jupiter rocket, and several structures named Jupiter in Jupiter, Florida.This section contains a small sampling of the numerous Jupiters as depicted on post cards and other items.
