This front-page article, titled %u201cProfessor Wise, the Aeronaut,%u201d discusses some of John Wise%u2019s early accomplishments, such as his flight from St. Louis to New York in his balloon Atlantic. But most of the article covers a planned balloon flight across the Atlantic Ocean which would rely on west-to-east air currents. The flight was funded by the New York Daily Graphic, and a huge 400,000 cu. ft. balloon was constructed%u2014with a lifeboat that could be used if the balloon had to ditched at sea. Unfortunately, not long after this article was printed, as the balloon was being inflated, it ripped apart, and the flight never took place.
