Herman Fluegel was born in Baltimore in 1882. In the late 1930%u2019s, his career as Captain in the Corps of Engineers became less demanding, so in 1944, he began servicing covers created by others. Then he employed artists to design cachets for his line of covers.Nix was born in 1902 and operated out of Washington, DC. He produced over 100 cachets in a simple hand-lettered style with a thermographic ink that yielded raised and shiny lettering. He died in 1972.
