This cachet appears to have been lettered with a multi-colored pencil.Likely a courtesy envelope provided to guests by the historic hotel. In 1871, Potter Palmer built The Palmer hotel as a wedding gift to his bride Bertha Honor%u00e9, but it burned down in the Great Chicago Fire%u2014just 13 days after opening. Palmer immediately began rebuilding what would become the Palmer House. When it opened, it was one of the fanciest hotels in the world, and Chicago%u2019s first hotel to have elevators. It was also the first hotel with electric lights and telephones in its guest rooms.
