Opened with 200 rooms in 1875 by Thomas Baker, the hotel had a separate entrance for ladies, a bridal chamber, %u201clavishly fitted up in the style for a king,%u201d and a steam-powered elevator. Renovations in 1914 provided a private bathroom for each room. Demolished in 1957.Opened in November 1909, the seven-story hotel was designed by architect Edward B. Stratton for boot-and-shoe manufacturer (and real-estate developer) William Ball Rice and his wife Emma Louise. It accepted both travelers and permanent guests, and is now an apartment building
