                                    The Severin was built in 1913 by Henry Severin Jr., with financial help from Carl G. Fisher (who helped build the Indianapolis Motor Speedway) and James A. Allison.Kurt Vonnegut, Sr. (father of the author) was lead architect. The hotel was purchased by Warren M. Atkinson in 1966, who renamed it the Atkinson Hotel. Today it is the Omni Severn Hotel%u2014one of Indianapolis%u2019 most celebrated cultural landmarks.The Atkinson Hotel lobby (left) with the original Austrian crystal chandelier and dramatic marble staircase, and the Omni Severin Hotel as it appears today (below).
