%u2022 October 17, 1914. On an Experimental Aeroplane Mail Flight planned to actually deliver mail some distance away, aviator William G. Robinson, flying a machine he designed, and built by the Grinnell Aeroplane Company, took off with mail from Des Moines, IA. His destination was Chicago but, after flying non-stop for over 370 miles, he was forced to land in Kentland after losing his way.
