                                    In learning to fly (around 1909) Horace Kearney broke 14 bones. After piloting three Pioneer Air Mail flights in Indiana during the summer and fall of 1912, he died on December 12 after crashing his hydro-aeroplane, Snookums, in the Pacific Ocean, in an attempt to fly from Los Angeles to San Francisco.%u2022 August 21-23, 1912. Aviator Horace Kearney took off with a mail bag from the Rockport Fairgrounds Aviation Meet, flew to a point near the post office (about a mile), where he dropped the mail pouch from his plane. A total of 3,500 pieces, mostly souvenir postcards, were flown over three days.Pioneer Flights (continued)
