Anniversary of Air Mail Service1938Eagle & ShieldC23%u2014May 14, 1938The stamp above was issued to commemorate the 20th anniversary of regular Air Mail service, which had involved a one-way trip between Washington, DC and New York City on May 15, 1918. The stamp was also released for National Airmail Week, when Postmaster James A. Farley encouraged all Americans to send a letter by Air Mail.
