                                    Air Mail Special Delivery1934-1936Great Seal of the U.S.CE1%u2014August 30, 1934Great Seal of the U.S.CE2%u2014February 10, 1936Great Seal of the U.S., Imperforate771%u2014March 15, 1935When Postmaster General James Farley gave various governmental dignitaries (including President Roosevelt) special imperforate, ungummed printings of some of the stamps produced in 1933 and 1934, stamp collectors complained loudly%u2014because they wanted some as well. To resolve the protests, the Post Office issued similar imperforate stamps at face value to the public%u2014including this blue 16%u00a2 Air Mail Special Delivery stamp. They have been known to collectors ever since, somewhat disparagingly, as %u201cFarley%u2019s Follies.%u201dThese stamps were a produced as a convenience for sending a letter via both Air Mail and Special Delivery, and were designed by President Franklin Roosevelt. They were the only such stamps created by the United States, and after 1936, two separate stamps were required.
