The Finest American Made View Post Cards. %u2022 The Albertype Co., Brooklyn, N.Y.These two cards depict examples of Spirit Photography, in which images of the dead, or splashes of light representing spirits, mysteriously appear on a negative or print in the darkroom as a result of supernatural processes. In the beginning, flashes might have been accidentally produced by a camera with a light leak. Images showing people (like these) were generally the result of deliberate techniques such as double exposure, or by placing small cut-outs on the image, then re-photographing the collage.
