She had red hair, liked to play euchre, and had 5 children. At the first s%u00e9ance she attended, in East St. Louis, Illinois, a medium told her, %u201cYou are psychic, and it would not take long for you to develop.%u201d She worked to become a medium during World War I, learning to use trance, clairvoyance, and clairaudience (hearing what is inaudible to others), and she was very good with names. She enjoyed demonstrating her abilities to skeptics, and passed many tests by the Psychic Research Society. In traveling throughout the Midwest, south, and west, she worked as a missionary for the Spiritualist Episcopal Church, and performed at Camp Chesterfield for more than 25 years.
