Beattie sometimes used folded slates, or cards, on which scratching could be heard in a darkened room, and written messages would mysteriously appear in different styles of handwriting. She was well known as a message bearer, could prompt spirits to speak through a trumpet, and was able to make objects materialize out of thin air.Artvue Post Card Co., 225 Fifth Ave., New York, N.Y.Rev. Schmitt was born in 1891 in Morenci, Michigan, passed into spirit on October 15, 1961 at the age of 70, and is buried in Anderson%u2019s Bronnenberg Cemetery. She worked at Camp Chesterfield with her sister Maud Nevison and her brother Ben Nevison. Ben was the first to develop his abilities, but quit practicing in later life. The two sisters performed as mediums for many years as clairvoyants and by calling up spirits to speak through trumpets. They often sat together to summon spirit drawings, and many of their clients obtained wonderful crayon drawings from their s%u00e9ances.
