When John Wise took off from Lafayette on August 17, 1859 he was planning to fly east as far as New York. But he was not blessed with favorable winds, and his balloon Jupiter slowly drifted south instead. Over four hours after lifting off, he finally landed near Crawfordsville. This cover is cancelled on the first day of the Jupiter stamp%u2019s release, August 17, 1959. However, it is cancelled in Crawfordsville to honor Wise%u2019s landing there.Lafayette Philatelic Society Cachet.
