Two varieties of cancellations were used on Jupiter First Day Covers. The most common has a pair of circular cancellations (called roundels) with one situated above the other. A less common variation also has two roundels, but they are positioned side-by-side. Each roundel contains the location of the Post Office (Lafayette, Ind.) and the date (August 17, 1959). One roundel in each pair utilizes a san-serif font, while the other uses an older-style serif font, with LA FAYETTE as two words. Each cancellation also includes a pair of horizontal bars above and below the words FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. The horizontal bars are called the killer, and the words are the slogan. For the cancellation having over-and-under roundels, the slogan is in a sans-serif font, while the slogan on the cancellation having side-by-side roundels has a serif font. This collection consists of a selection of First Day Covers with different cachets %u2014all celebrating the Jupiter stamp. For the most widely available cachets, there are two examples%u2014one with a single stamp and one with a block of four. Variations are also included when a cachet was printed in different colors. Some of the Covers herein are imprinted with a Corner Card, which refers to the return address of a commercial, institutional, or private source, and is similar to a business card.
