The Anderson%u2019s grand opening was on Tuesday, June 17, 1930. In the early 1950s, it was a downtown showplace for travelers as well as local entertainment. Demolition began on November 19, 1981, and the site is now Citizens Plaza Park.Built by a small group of local men, headed by Judge T. Joseph Sullivan, and opened on March 19, 1928. It offered 66 rooms, and had seven stores operating on the main level. It was demolished in 2018, after which the City of Whiting teamed up with Holladay Properties to develop the site into The Illiana, a 32-unit apartment building with 4,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor.
