Nuclear Weapons of the Atomic AgeAtomic Bomb Test, July 1, 1946This cover was cancelled aboard the U.S.S. Blue Ridge on the day of the Abel test at Bikini Atoll. An Appalachian-class amphibious force flagship, the Blue Ridge was launched on March 7, 1943, and was one of the support vessels for Operation Crossroads. After the war, she operated at various times in the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Arctic, the Mediterranean, the Black Sea, and the Caribbean. She was sold for scrap on August 26, 1960.
