Nuclear Weapons of the Atomic AgeAtomic Bomb Test, July 1, 1946This cover was cancelled aboard the U.S.S. Robert K. Huntington on the day of the Abel test at Bikini Atoll. An Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer, the Huntington was launched on December 5, 1944, and was one of the support vessels for Operation Crossroads. After the war, she operated at various times in the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Arctic, the Mediterranean, the Black Sea, and the Caribbean. She was decommissioned on October 31, 1969 and sold to the Venezuelan navy.
