Eventually there was a large farmingoperation with cows, hogs, chickens, a truck garden, and an orchard. The infirmary wasdemolished in September 1986, and the residential building was demolished in 2009.Vigo County Poor Farm%u2014%u2014Terre Haute, Indiana%u2014%u2014Established 1853Built originally on 80 acres, it was charged with caring for the %u201cunfortunates%u201d of the county. By 1865,the house was no longer adequate to care for the poor of the county and it was sold. It wasrebuilt in 1936 with an expansion in 1976, and was demolished in 1987.Homes and Orphanages
