McCutcheon, popular Hoosier cartoonist at the Chicago Tribune. Mailed by Edward L. Jackson, while he was serving as Indiana%u2019s 32nd Governor. Jackson served between 1925 and 1929, and had close ties to the Ku Klux Klan. He was accused of favoring the Klan's agenda while in office, and was involved in several political scandals, including being tried for attempting to bribe the previous governor. He was not convicted because the statute of limitations had expired, and left office in disgrace.
