After the Air Mail Scandal, a new AM-25 Route was established and awarded to American Airlines, Inc. This new route extended the old CAM-24 route by adding a segment on June 10, 1934 from Cincinnati to Washington, DC, via Charleston, West Virginia. From Cincinnati, the route extended to Indianapolis and Chicago. Other stops were added through 1957.Prior to the scandal, American Airlines had been known as American Airways, with the name change being necessary to get a new AM contract. It was originally formed in 1929 from the Robertson Aircraft Corporation and Colonial Air Transport as a holding company, The Aviation Corporation, which then became American Airways, then American Airlines.A matchbook cover featuring American Airlines, Inc.
