National Air Mail Week Covers of IndianaThis collection began with just a handful of Indiana%u2019s National Air Mail Week (NAMW) covers in the back of my Indiana First Flight Cover Album. I felt they would represent a sampling of such covers. However, as the assortment grew, it became obvious it was evolving into a true collection, and needed its own album. Still, I knew it would never be complete, because the precise number of different Indiana NAMW covers available is unknown, and of the ones that are known, some are quite scarce. So, this album contains a representative selection of National Air Mail Week covers which departed from Indiana cities and towns during the week of May 15%u201321, 1938. Some are dated on the Pickup Service Day%u2014Thursday, May 19%u2014but a good many were cancelled on other days during that special week. The majority have cachets, although some from very small Post Offices do not. A few covers also include a signature of the local Postmaster, or the pilot. The caption for each cover includes its city/town, county, date of cancellation, the identifying number assigned to it by Drabyk (See Bibliography), backstamp information, and other pertinent facts such as such as notable addressees. If the reverse side of a cover has a cachet, or some other interesting feature, a facsimile image of the back is placed directly below it.Quite a few of the covers contained herein are addressed to Paul R. Younts of Charlotte, NC, who was appointed as National Chairman of NAMW by the United States Postmaster General James A. Farley. In the 1990s, a Napierville, IL man, Don Lussky (an avid collector of NAMW material) purchased many of Younts%u2019 covers at an auction. He continued to own most of them until 2019 when he decided to sell a number of Indiana duplicates to me. They are now part of this collection.About This Collection
