                                    The club was founded on March 2, 1932 %u201cto encourage and promote the hobby of stamp collecting, to assist its members in the acquiring and disposing of stamps, and to promote sociability among its members.%u201d Meetings are a mix of presentations, exhibits, auctions, picnics, and parties. Verna Mann was born in 1888 in Marion, Indiana, and lived in Fort Wayne until moving to California in 1918. After attending art school in San Francisco, she worked at a variety of jobs, including as an electrologist (removing moles, and shaping eyebrows), and teaching at an elementary school. She began producing cachets in 1947, and had made as many as 125 by the time she died in 1954.
