It had a medical school from 1901 to 1922.Indiana University established a medical school in Bloomington in 1903, then opened an Indianapolis campus five years later. Not long afterwards, the Bloomington campus only offered two years of pre-clinical coursework, while the Indianapolis campus retained the fouryear medical-school curriculum. The Medical Building was erected in 1936 on the Bloomington campus and renamed Myers Hall in 1958. The campus in Indianapolis got its first teaching hospital in June 15, 1914 with the opening of the Robert W. Long Hospital. Another respected program was offered at the Medical Department at Valparaiso College%u2014one of the first coeducation colleges in the United States. Lasting for twenty-one years (from 1901 to 1922), it was originally affiliated with the Chicago College of Medicine and Surgery. Later it became associated with the Hahnemann Medical College of Chicago, which taught homeopathic medicine. There was not one single standard for medical education in Indiana%u2019s early years, but several. Homeopathy was based on the belief that, if a substance elicited specific symptoms in a well person, it would be the correct drug to cure individuals afflicted with those same symptoms. This was the basis of its theory that %u201clike cures like.%u201d Homeopaths also maintained that a drug%u2019s potency could be enhanced significantly by diluting it%u2014which was called the law of infinitesimals. Other medical approaches included PhysioMedical medicine, which dealt with natural healing%u2014specifically, using herbal medicines. Eclectic Medicine also made use of botanical remedies, along with other types of substances, and physical therapy. All these approaches were
