Vintage Postcards of Indiana Health FacilitiesSt. Anthony%u2019s Hospital%u2014%u2014Michigan City, Indiana%u2014%u2014Established 1904In 1902, Mrs. John Bluett donated an entire block in Michigan City to the Sisters of St. Francis to erect a hospital. Thebuilding cost $85,000 and was dedicated by Bishop Alerding. In July 1906, Sister Valeriia, the local superior, who was mostactive in the hospital%u2019s construction, was killed in an elevator accident. The building was demolished and replaced in 1978.Protestant Deaconess Hospital and Home for the Aged%u2014%u2014Indianapolis, Indiana%u2014%u2014Established 1895Originally housed in a former two-story residence, the Deaconess Hospital Society (mostly consisting of GermanAmericans) erected this building in 1899.
