Vintage Postcards of Indiana Health FacilitiesAbout This Collection, continuedestablishments from Indiana%u2019s past. While this selection is certainly not all-inclusive, it does contain postcards featuring a broad sampling of hospitals, asylums, institutions, sanitariums, spas, homes, and orphanages, in dozens of Hoosier cities and towns, over many decades. Some very popular locations%u2014such as the resort at French Lick%u2014have always been represented by a fairly large selection of postcards. So, for such places, we%u2019ve included several of them, featuring various views. On the other hand, less prestigious institutions, such as small-town hospitals or retirement homes, were likely only represented by a single postcard, of which we may have an example. In any case, this collection has provided us with much fascinating and unexpected knowledge of a time period and way of life that existed, not so long ago, in Indiana. How our forebears treated and housed the ill, orphaned, old, poor, or handicapped is a story of hope, caring, improvement, and pride.
