After the Air Mail Scandal, a new AM-7 Route was established and awarded to American Airlines, Inc. Prior to the scandal, American Airlines had been known as American Airways, with the name change being necessary to get a new AM contract. It was originally formed in 1929 from the Robertson Aircraft Corporation and Colonial Air Transport as a holding company, knows as the Aviation Corporation, which then became American Airways, then American Airlines. Between 1970 and 2000, the company became an international carrier, and purchased Trans World Airlines in 2001.The first segment of the new AM-7 route covered 794 miles, and the first flights commenced on May 13, 1934 with two daily trips between New York City and Buffalo, then on to Detroit and Chicago. Cities in between, including South Bend, Indiana, were added the next day, May 14, with several other legs being inaugurated through 1956.Adhesivebacked luggage label of American Airlines
