Aging Gracefully561to be able to read the fifth and last volume in the series, whenever it was published. At that time, Caro was 89 years old, and he hadn%u2019t yet completed the section dealing with the Viet Nam War. Based of our positive experience with his books, we started seeking out other well-written political biographies. As I would read aloud from my comfortable lounge chair in our living room, Lynn would often simply sit on the couch and listen. But she might, instead, be doing something on the floor. Such as pinning a McCall%u2019s or Simplicity sewing pattern (or a pattern of her own design) to some cloth, then cutting it out. Or, she might have her tools, beads, and other paraphernalia spread out to make or repair jewelry. Or she might be embroidering. If she had something to prepare in the kitchen, I%u2019d sit at the dining table and read, or if the weather was nice, we%u2019d sit out on our deck. Since acquiring high-speed internet, we also enjoyed streaming various TV programs that weren%u2019t in our Blu-Ray or DVD collection %u2014 both new series, and vintage favorites %u2014 plus various PBS programs on their Passport streaming service. We were now picking up carry-out meals more often, so Lynn wouldn%u2019t need to spend as much time cooking. Generally, it was Chinese food, or sandwiches from Subway or another restaurant that offered whole-wheat bread. Sometimes we%u2019d get large chef salads. Lynn continued to make a vat of delicious soup regularly, which combined with half of a whole-wheat bagel each, would last us a week. As we%u2019d slowed down, I%u2019d started cleaning up the kitchen after her prep work, as well as after meals. It only seemed
