To survive financially, they had to start producing something that was alcohol-free. Coors took advantage of clay deposits near their Colorado headquarters and launched a ceramics business, CoorsTek, which still exists and generates more income than its beer. Wisconsin%u2019s Pabst Brewing Co. made Pabst-ett cheese, which they sold to Kraft at the end of Prohibition. Ice cream was produced by Yuengling, Anheuser-Busch, and Stroh%u2019s. In Milwaukee, the Blatz Brewing Company formed the Blatz Gum Company, and produced chewing gum packaged with trading cards. By 1928, they ran promotional giveaways and distributed their gum to children at movie theaters. That same year, the firm issued a set of cards featuring 20 stars of the silver screen. Later, they offered this set of cards depicting 32 of the architectural marvels of the Century of Progress Exhibition. Each card had a color image on the front with descriptive text on the back. Resembling tiny postcards more than trading cards, they were advertised as %u201cMiniature Souvenir Views!%u201d Inside each Blatz Gum wrapper, which proclaimed %u201cCentury of Progress Gum%u2014Art Colortone Pictures,%u201d there was one stick of gum along with a single Blatz card. Based on the future tense used in the text on some of the cards, they were published prior to the opening of the Fair. The Blatz Century of Progress cards were also issued in two separate 16-card sets, with each series packaged in a box suitable for mailing. Unlike the cards that came with their gum, the boxed cards were blank on their reverse sides. The same images used on Blatz trading cards were also used on full-size postcards printed by Curt Teich.Three Fluted Towers around Dome of Federal BuildingThese three fluted towers 150 feet high around the dome of the Federal Building represent the three branches of government%u2014administrative, legislative, and executive.
