As a young man, he was apprenticed to a printer in Lobenstein. In 1895, after emigrating to the United States, he took a job as a Printers%u2019 Devil in New York, then moved to Chicago in January of 1898 and founded Curt Teich & Company. Eventually, it became the largest printer of view and advertising postcards in the world. Teich%u2019s company was a pioneer in the offset printing process. It was best known for its %u201cGreetings From%u201d postcards with their large letters, vivid colors, and bold styles. Teich hired scores of traveling salesmen to peddle them door to door. He also encouraged businesses to create advertising postcards. If they agreed, his company photographed their buildings and products, then worked closely with them to create appealing, idealized images. Curt Teich died in 1974, and the company closed in 1978. After his passing, his family established the Curt Teich Postcard Archives Collection, now housed in Chicago%u2019s Newberry Library. Remarkably, it contains 500,000 postcards, including three series published for The Century of Progress Exhibition. %u2756
