                                    Commemorating the eleventh Armistice Day in Indianapolis, no backstamp.Addressee, Paul Vories McNutt, served as National Commander of the American Legion from 1928 to 1929.Indianapolis Times, November 11, 1929Addressee Paul McNutt, who also signed this cover, graduated from Indiana University in 1913 and received a law degree from Harvard in 1916. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, attaining the rank of major, then later in the reserves rose to colonel. He taught at the I.U. School of Law, and in 1925 became the youngest dean in the school's history. He was elected Governor of Indiana in 1933, served a single term, and chaired the National Governors Association for two years. President Franklin Roosevelt named him Administrator of the Federal Security Agency in 1939, then Chair of the War Manpower Commission in 1942. In 1945, President Truman appointed him High Commissioner to the Philippines, then in 1946 United States Ambassador to the Philippines. Besides appearing on the cover of Life magazine (above), he was also on the cover of Time (twice). McNutt is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
