47Former railroad bridge (Wabash River)%u2014Knox Co. (529-03)Each of these Wabash River railroad bridges was originally constructed as a %u201cswing bridge%u201d with the center span mounted on a giant turntable atop a circular limestone pier. This allowed the span to rotate out of the way, permitting riverboats to pass. The bridges no longer rotate, and the one above (which once carried the Wabash Cannonball) now carries single-lane automobile traffic.
