(101.08)With its even texture, uniform color, and overall quality, Indiana limestone has been used to build many important commercial and public buildings. These include the Empire State Building and the Pentagon, as well as state capitols, courthouses, university classrooms, churches, schools, and other structures all across the country.As I took my photographs, I had the impression that the equipment had just been shut off. Yes, there was deterioration and vandalism, as well some jungle-like plant growth. Despite this, it seemed as if the workers had simply left for the day, and would be back in the morning. But, the doors were closed and the workers never would return to these forsaken places.As I walked through each silent mill, under rusting beams and girders, over broken window glass, my shoes covered with limestone dust, I could almost hear the echoes of voices.
