Nuclear Weapons of the Atomic AgeEsperanto Atomic Bomb Protest Poster StampIt is unknown who issued this stamp, or when it was released, but it has appeared on covers from a number of countries, including Brazil in the late 1960s, Czechoslovakia in 1970, and Bulgaria in 1958. At that time, Spain had some large Esperanto presses, so it may have been printed there. The text on this stamp, Haltigu la atombomb eksplodojn!, translates into %u201cStop the atom bomb explosions,%u201d and there is a variation (below right) that has the additional, ne plu hirosimoni, which translates to %u201cNo More Hiroshimas.%u201dEsperanto was created in the late 1800s, and continues to be used in the 21st century, but not widely. It is believed that there are up to 100,000 speakers in the world. It was suppressed by the Nazi regime, and by Joseph Stalin in Russia.
