Institutional and Private LibrariesMaennerchor Halle Library%u2014%u2014Indianapolis, IndianaErected in 1907, at a cost of $160,000, the Maennerchor Halle was home to the Maennerchor German Mens%u2019 Choir (which was founded in 1854, and shown below in 1906). Among other features, the building had an 800-seat, acoustically perfect concert hall. After the Choir lost the building in the 1930s, it served as a music academy, a %u201cGay 90s%u201d cocktail lounge, a USO club, and for 24 years it housed the Indiana University School of Law. The building was demolished in 1974, and the Choir gave its last performance on May 30, 2018%u2014of the National Anthem, at the Indianapolis Indians%u2019 Victory Field. At the time it was the oldest continuously existing male chorus in the United States.
