By 1911, there were 186 patients, and the institution was almost selfsustaining. In 1922, new housing for women was being built, and within 3 years, there were 220 female patients out of a totalpopulation of 701. In the 1960s, as epileptics were reintegrated into society, mentally handicapped patients were admitted. By1985, only two buildings remained, and the name changed to the New Castle State Developmental Center.
