A native of Lafayette and graduate of both Purdue University and Ball Sate University, he and his wife, Lynn, reside in rural Monroe County in a home they designed and built themselves.In his professional career, Claude Cookman worked as a photography editor for several news organizations including The Louisville Times, where he shared in the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography. He earned a Masters of Fine Arts in art history and a Ph.D. in the history of photography, both from Princeton University.
