Elrod, pilot%u2014%u2014an unknown number of pieces flown.This is a scarce error cover which contains a Segment 1 cachet (which did not go to Chicago), rather that the correct Segment 2 cachet (which did go to Chicago). Addressee, Jack Knight Air Label Catalog, was named in honor of heroic Air Mail pilot Jack Knight, who flew a mail route from North Platte to Omaha, Nebraska. On the first transcontinental night-time Air Mail flight, in February 1921, Knight reached Omaha, but the weather was so bad, the regular pilot refused to fly the mail on to Chicago. So Knight volunteered, even though he had never been on that route before. He made it through a severe snowstorm, and was hailed by the press as %u201chero who saved the airmail.%u201d
