Interstate Airlines was formed in June 1928 to operate the CAM-30 air-mail route between Chicago, IL and Atlanta, GA. The first leg was flown on November 19 between Chicago and Evansville, and the Evansville-Atlanta leg was flown on December 1. On that same date, another leg was extended to Saint Louis. Initially, the route covered 790 miles, and there was a daily trip each way. In 1929, like many of the smaller early aviation companies, Interstate Airlines was eventually absorbed into American Airways, Inc. In 1931, CAM-28 was officially discontinued and its routes were made a part of CAM-30. This extended the CAM-30 territory to Omaha, Nebraska. Soon after a leg was added to Denver, Colorado, via Salina, Kansas.Interstate Airlines, Inc. proudly provided passengers on some of its routes with a souvenir card containing a biography of their CAM-30 pilot.
