Thompson Aeronautical Corp. was founded in early 1928, and became the successful bidder for the CAM27 air-mail route from Bay City MI to Chicago. It began transporting mail on July 17, 1928 with a fleet of 6 Stinson Detroiter airplanes. When originally placed in operation, CAM27 served more cities than any other route, and it covered the important automotive district in Michigan. It also served cities in New York, Ohio, Illinois, Ontario, and four in northern Indiana.By 1931 Thompson became a subsidiary of its parent company, Transamerican Airlines Corporation and, in 1933, it was purchased by American Airways, the same company that had absorbed the Embry-Riddle Company (and 80 other small airlines). American operated its routes with all-metal Fokker Tri-Motors and Ford TriMotors. By 1934, American was flying Curtiss Condor biplanes which carried air mail and accommodated 15-18 passengers in the ultimate of airline comfort.Thompson Aeronautical Corp.
